Belief Statements
Often people ask, “What do you believe at this church?” Here, in just a few statements, is a summary of what we believe
1. We believe in one God and Father of us all. God is creator, is creating still, and is sovereign in all ways through all time. All of God's names are relevant today: He is Redeemer, Provider, Healer, Righteousness, and Most High. He is Jehovah Lord.
2. We believe Jesus Christ, the one and only son of God, is the sole source of salvation and is a servant to all people. He is our model for imitation. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings, His atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people. We believe Jesus is coming again. This hope for the future defines who we are today.
3. We believe the Holy Spirit came from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify and empower for ministry all who believe in Christ. The Holy Spirit lives in every Christian and He is an abiding Helper, Teacher and Guide. We believe in the present day ministry of the Holy Spirit.
4. We believe The Kingdom is God's reign over the hearts of men.
5. We believe the church is the body of Jesus and He is the Head. He's in charge. The purpose of the church is to glorify to God and to love people, as revealed in the life, ministry, and teachings of Jesus, such as the great commands and great commission.
6. We believe The Word has been since the beginning. Scripture, which is inspired by God, has been written and collected through the ages. The word Bible literally means 'book.' We believe it is the book that reflects The Living Word and contains the Holy Scriptures.
7. We believe immersion Baptism is an essential expression of faith and participation in the death, burial, resurrection, and saving power of Jesus. Jesus taught and practiced baptism.
8. We believe whereas God is perfect and holy, people are not. People need to reconnect, or reconcile, with God. In Jesus there is a way to do that. We would all be lost forever without God's salvation in Jesus.
9. We believe in the grace of God in Jesus.
10. We believe the Lord's Supper was taught and practiced by Jesus. The regular practice of it promotes unity and a sense of His sacrifice, His life and the certainty of His coming again.
11. We believe every believer is given gifts by God to use in ministry (service) in the Kingdom, the church, and the world. The reason is to give Him glory, to encourage people, and to reach out to anyone who may not know Him or His people.
12. We believe prayer, at its heart, is asking for God's will to be done on earth just as His will is done in heaven. We believe in prayer as an effective means for change of circumstances as well as character. It has a profound influence in the faith and life of Christians as well as others.
13. We believe God is love and wants our love. He loved first and calls us into a loving relationship with Him that shapes our relationships with all people.
14. We believe worship is expressed individually in lifestyle choices and expressed corporately by the church in assemblies. Worship Assemblies are primarily about giving God honor, glory, and praise.
15. We believe we must work for unity among all believers and that a loving family of believers can openly discuss their diversity, beliefs, and questions in a caring atmosphere guided by the Holy Spirit and The Word.
16. We believe that just as anyone can find their place in God's Family, anyone and everyone is welcome in the church. We're all on a journey. It's just that we're at different points along the way.
