The Advent of Jesus: On Our Shoulders and In Our Hearts

This past October Altamesa members Travis and Holly brought their two young children to a special prayer meeting. That night, in our Prayer Room, about fifteen people prayed for a very sick little boy, Noah.

Little Noah attended the prayer meeting, along with his parents and grandparents. It was a powerful time where adults and children alike lifted passionate pleas for miraculous healing to God.

Recently Travis was reading a seasonal Christmas book to his five year old son, Braden. He has a wonderful story to share, a reminder of the coming of Jesus, as well as the power of praying with your family.

Every evening Holly or I read a daily devotional book with Braden. With the beginning of Advent, the book is getting into the blessing of the Christ child, and how exciting it was when Christ was born. This particular lesson went further, in explaining how much more wonderful it will be when Christ makes His second coming. At the conclusion of the lesson Braden asked when Jesus would be coming back again, and of course I said, "no one knows." He replied, "I hope it is soon, don't you?" "I sure do," I replied. He went on..."when he comes, we'll put him up on our shoulders and carry him!" Then Braden asked, "Daddy, is Noah still sick?" Thinking he was talking about the Noah of Genesis, I said, "Noah died a long time ago, way before Jesus was born." Braden said, "no, I mean the Noah that was sick and we sang to him and prayed for him in that room at our church." I said, "yes, sweetie, he is sick." Braden's reply: "when Jesus gets here I'm going to ask him to do a miracle for Noah." It has been weeks since we gathered to sing and pray for Noah. What an impression that evening made on my son. I am so glad that we got to be a part of it.
