When God Speaks You Listen

It has been quite a week of work here in the Philippines. We arrived last Tuesday morning (more about our 36 hour trip from our front door in Texas to Cebu City later).

We then took a 12 hour boat ride to the most Southern island in the Philippines, Mindanao ( yes, where there are sometimes altercations with Muslim extremists and the U.S. State Department discourages you to go... BTW, we felt safe the entire time there and loved the people we met). From the boat is was an hour drive in the back of a Jeepney ( think WWII jeep with a truck bed and benches welded on) to Butuan City, and finally a shorter drive up into the mountains to Sunrise Christian College. This is where we helped in a medical/dental mission. We assisted in everything from tooth pulling to minor surgery. I also preached ( an hour at a time)and was interpreted in a local dialect. This was all a great experience. The people are very poor but very interested in hearing about God and His love. I spoke for some time with them about what God says to the nations, to Islam, to Christians, to the wealthy and the poor.

Now we are back in Cebu City, after another long boat ride. I will post again as soon as I can, but suffice it to say we have seen some incredible things and experienced wonderful people. The little girl in the picture is one of hundreds who came to the medical/dental mission. She lives in the mountains in a tiny village that you'd have to see to believe.
