Why is it

Why is it, that everyone feels rushed or there isn't enough time to get everything finished that we have to do? Why are we always tired and distracted as we live out our lives. It's an interesting paradigm because some people wear the fact they are busy and have no time almost as a badge. While others talk about it in a way that says "I would give anything to be able to slow down once and a while." I look at my own life and so often I am both people. I want to be seen as important, so I don't mind being seen as busy. I am also the person who is flustered, worn thin and desperately wanting rest. I have to ask why? Look at the culture we live in here in America where what we do is driven so often by the corporate world, the media, and mostly the dollar. It has our culture convinced we always have to be climbing up the corporate ladder, filling our lives with stuff to make us better in some way, or simply making us afraid to slow down or get bored. Take children for example, they are stretched thinner than any generation before them because our culture has convinced us that we need to have them doing everything possible, or they will be behind and we have forgotten to let them be kids. No wonder we find ourselves tired and in need of rest. We were not created to be people who go all the time. In the Psalms 46:10 says "Be still, and know that I am God." This to me is an amazing statement which holds so much weight as to how relationship with the Lord should be. There are so many distractions in this world for example; we have football on TV on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, and high school games on Fridays. I wonder are we so busy and distracted that we never slow down and take the time to hear what the Lord wants to tell us. To stop just be in his presence and be amazed at how he will bless us. I wonder how our lives and ultimately our culture would change if we took this verse seriously. If we intentionally took the time to "Be still" and know he is God. I think the possibilities are limitless as is God. We might have new insights, revelations, blessings, or a renewed spirit because of rest. How we treated each other would change and more importantly what was important in life would change. Because when it is all said and done we would see that all that really matters in this world is ours and others relationship with the Father. It is the only thing we will take with us when we are gone. Psalms 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God" the Lord is trying to tell us that everyday.
