Job Description
Title: Preaching Minister
Position: Regular Full-Time
Responsible To: Shepherds for spiritual matters
Reports To: Shepherd Worship Team and, for day to day administrative matters, the Administrator
Requirements of Job
The candidate sought must meet these minimal requirements:

Must love the Lord and have knowledge of His Word

Must be able to communicate effectively, the Word of God to the congregation

Must understand the importance and practice of prayer and other spiritual disciplines, and incorporate these into his personal life.

Must exhibit a Christ-like character and an understanding of personal calling at all times and in all settings
-
Must understand and enthusiastically support the values, vision, mission, and goals of the Altamesa Church of Christ
-
Must invest time in personal spiritual growth opportunities (these include, but are not limited to, seminars, workshops, and reading)
-
Must have effective organizational skills for planning and follow-through of ministry tasks
-
Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-staff office
-
Must comply with all Altamesa Church of Christ administrative policies and procedures
Principal Responsibilities
The principal responsibilities for the preaching minister are grouped into three areas: effectively preaching the Word, developing a goal plan to nurture the congregation, and work well as an integral part of a multi-staff office.
I. Effectively Preaching the Word

The preaching minister is responsible for the preaching ministry at Altamesa. Additionally, the preaching minister is, in partnership with the Shepherd Worship Team, the staff member primarily responsible for selecting those who preach in his absence.

He is also responsible for presenting the Word of God to the congregation “for equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ” (Eph. 4:11-12). This will be done through the following venues:

lessons from the pulpit
-
classes
-
small groups
-
leadership meetings and retreats
-
church-wide studies.

II. Goal Plan

The preaching minister is expected to develop a viable annual goal plan that stems out of the Altamesa Vision Statement that includes goals, strategies and critical steps for achieving success as the preaching minister;

The goal plan must reflect a willingness to exhibit diversity of thought and behavior and a spirit of collaboration with the shepherds, the staff and the church community.

The goal plan should reflect a healthy strategy to collaborate with the Worship Facilitator Minister in the planning and leading of worship in authentic, Biblical and relevant ways.

Along with the Worship Facilitator Minister and Shepherd Worship Team, the goal plan should include strategies to cast the vision for various ministry efforts that are focused on worship.

The preaching minister is responsible to perform a quarterly self-assessment in relationship to the established goal plan, which will be reviewed with the Shepherd Worship Team.
III. Staff Member

The preaching minister is to develop and maintain a healthy, cooperative, cohesive and collaborative relationship with the Shepherds, congregation, staff, and Shepherd Worship Team;

Be involved in the life of the congregation through counseling, officiating weddings and funerals, visiting the sick and bereaved, and attending congregational functions;

Be involved in various Altamesa ministries and accepting of essential tasks as delegated or assigned by the Shepherds and Shepherd Worship Team;

Develop and maintain a positive identity and level of involvement within the community that promotes Altamesa Church of Christ, its mission, and outreach opportunities;

Attend and actively participate in weekly staff meetings;

Participate in the weekly minister devotional and prayer time, and other activities designed to develop healthy staff relationships;

Observe and comply with the policies and guidelines for Altamesa staff.
